Local Involvement

For people living and working in the Forest the opportunities for involvement in the Cinderbury project will be maximised in several key areas:

  • Collaboration and co-ordination with other Forest visitor attractions, such as Forest Model Village, Puzzle Wood, Dean Heritage Centre, Lydney Park. Preliminary liaison with these attractions have already taken place with favourable responses. Themed tours using joint educational and visitor events, and joint marketing and promotional opportunities will benefit all involved. It will also do much to advance and enhance the potential of Forest tourism and Forest educational status.
  • Contributions and support between Cinderbury and local crafts people and artists, both in the initial construction of the site and in the continuing educational programmes. Cinderbury will also be an outlet for the products of local craftspeople and artists, via replica pottery, metalwork, jewellery, and other souvenirs. This will provide revenue and promote and encourage local skills and talents.
  • To act as a focal point and location for the activities of local history and archaeology groups, such as the Young Archaeologists Club and Dean Archaeological Group.
  • To encourage membership from local people. A ‘Friends of Cinderbury’ scheme will run, co-ordinating and encouraging local skills and practical assistance. For a small annual membership fee, Friends of Cinderbury will also have discounted access to the project site.
